Kyiv, Ukraine, 1 April 2026 – The Alliance and the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) have announced a new project to digitalise key procedures governing trade in agri-food products.
At a launch event hosted by SSUFSCP in Kyiv, which brought together representatives from government, the private sector and international partners, the two organisations officially kicked off project activities.
Ukraine’s agri-food sector plays a vital role in the country’s economy, accounting for around 10% of GDP and approximately 40% of national exports. Modernising and simplifying trade procedures in the sector is crucial to strengthening the competitiveness of Ukrainian agri-food businesses, with broader implications for global food security.
The Alliance’s initiative will harmonise and streamline export processes, reduce administrative burdens for businesses and support Ukraine’s alignment with European Union (EU) standards. It will focus on two key areas:
- Development of a front-end for the eFood public services system – a one stop shop for all services provided by the SSUFSCP
- Implementation of four e-services for export certification of food products of animal and non-animal origin
By digitalising procedures, the project will simplify sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) export formalities, reduce processing times and increase transparency in interactions between businesses and authorities.
When fully operational, the eFood system will allow businesses to submit applications online, track procedures in real time and access key regulatory information through a single digital interface.
The platform is expected to support nearly two million users and manage millions of transactions annually, implying significant efficiency gains in the regulatory process.
“Businesses depend on procedures that are clear, predictable and fast,” said Anders Rehnberg, Alliance Deputy Director. “By working with Ukrainian authorities and private sector, this project will further Ukrainian EU integration and enhance efficiency in agri-food trade, making it easier for Ukrainian companies to move their products across borders.”
The initiative will also support SSUFSCP in advancing its broader eFood digitalisation programme, which aims to modernise how traders interact with the agency and how food safety procedures are managed.
“Ukraine’s agri-food sector is a key driver of our economy, and modern public services are essential to support its growth,” said Serhii Tkachuk, Head of SSUFSCP. “The development of the eFood platform will replace time-consuming paperwork with modern digital services, supporting exporters and strengthening food safety oversight.”
This project is part of the Sweden-Alliance Eastern Partnership (EaP) window, designed to support countries in the region in aligning with EU requirements while fostering a more inclusive trade environment and enhancing governance.
“Supporting Ukraine is a top priority for Sweden, and we are pleased to be part of this initiative focused on simplifying processes for Ukrainian food exports while aligning with EU standards” said Christina Danielsson, Head of Development and Reform Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine. “This is in line with Sweden’s aim to strengthen synergies across development cooperation, promotion, and trade policy.”
