Ottawa, Canada – Global Affairs Canada, the government department responsible for Canada’s international development and trade relations, has renewed its support for the Alliance with a commitment of additional funding. The announcement underscores Canada’s continued dedication to fostering inclusive economic growth, with an emphasis on building equitable and sustainable trade practices.

Alliance projects simplify cross-border processes, enhance trade efficiency, and drive reforms that benefit businesses of all sizes, particularly in developing countries. By collaborating with government bodies, the private sector, and international organisations, the Alliance has successfully implemented impactful projects in over 25 countries.

With Canada’s renewed support, the Alliance will continue its mission to create more efficient and inclusive trade systems. Special emphasis will be placed on empowering women traders and ensuring that reforms have widespread societal benefits.

Canada’s support to the Alliance aligns with its development priorities, including strengthening rule-based trade and advancing gender equality in international trade.

Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade: “Canada recognizes the importance of international trade as a crucial driver of economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries. Through our participation in the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation, we ensure that these countries have the necessary resources and expertise to streamline trade, reduce poverty, and create new economic opportunities.”

Alliance Director Philippe Isler welcomed the commitment: “We are excited to continue our partnership with Global Affairs Canada. This funding represents more than just financial support; it is a testament to Canada’s leadership in global trade reform and its commitment to building a more resilient, efficient global trading system.”

Canada’s support will bolster ongoing initiatives and create potential for the Alliance to expand its impact. The Alliance is committed to further strengthening its partnership with Global Affairs Canada in the future, working together to build global trade systems that benefit all sectors of society, particularly the most marginalised.
